Her 6 month doctor appointment was this month and Charlotte weighed 18lbs 7.5 oz (80th percentile) and she is now 27.25 in long (86th percentile) and her head circumference is 43cm (61st percentile). Aside from the four shots she got, it was a pretty great doctor's visit but unfortunately our last with our doctor. She is leaving the practice to have more time with her family so our 9 month appointment will be with Dr. Pequette. We are very much looking forward to meeting him.
Charlotte has grown out of her infant car seat and moved to the more upright but still rear facing version. She loves being able to see more as we go down the road and you can tell she is just more comfortable. We can turn it to face forward between 20 and 22 pounds so that will probably be somewhat soon. The bigger car seat means she has to be unbuckled and carried whenever we get out of the car (as opposed to carrying her in the seat). In some ways this is easier but causes challenges at other times. I hate to wake her when she has fallen asleep in her car seat (which happens almost instantly when we get in the car) just to run in somewhere. Once we are in the store though she can ride right in the seat of the cart. It's so cute. She loved it at first but now I think she wishes her seat faced forward so she could see where we are going.
She is still wearing size 3 diapers. We have switched from Pampers to Luvs. They seem to run about 10 cents cheaper per diaper so we decided to give them a try. She sleeps on her tummy during most naps now and has tried a couple times to make it over night too. We've never gone a whole night without the nap nanny though. Hoping to remedy that soon as I think it's to the point of being a crutch for mom and dad. She just sleeps SO well in it that we kind of took on the mentality of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" As for food, she has decided that she no longer likes vegetables. We can try to sneak them in (and will continue to try) but we aren't fooling her at all. She makes the most horrible and hilarious faces. Hopefully this is just a phase.
In addition to her regular doctor appointment this month, we took part in Illinois' free "infant see" program and took Charlotte to our eye doctor for a preliminary eye exam. It went well and Charlotte actually laughed and enjoyed it! As far as they can tell, she may be a bit nearsighted (she would get it honestly from me) but her eye health is great. It was very interesting to me to see what they did to check the vision of a baby. If you have or will have a baby (between 6-12 months old) I'd recommend taking them for this free exam or finding out if a similar program exists in your state.
A few weeks ago we had a long weekend and decided to take the opportunity to take Charlotte to one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego. No, we didn't hop on a plane, but we did drive to the newly opened Hash House A Go Go in Chicago. The food was as good as we remembered. We walked around the city a little but although it was a warm January day in Chicago, 40 degrees is not warm enough for Charlotte or us. We ended up spending more time in the car than actually in Chicago but it was all worth it. Charlotte got to see the big city and we got to have a family adventure. I'm certainly looking forward to the day when Charlotte can really enjoy the city and we can take her to the aquarium and museums too!
We got home from Chicago early enough that Nick decided he would work on putting up the new safety gates for the stairway. He loves having a project and its a good thing too because Charlotte started CRAWLING the next day! She's just growing up so fast! So the baby proofing has started at our house and all the outlets are covered. Cabinet locks will have to be installed soon.
