The Metzger's tour San DIego

Day 1: arrived 3pm local time and quickly made very important first stop for some good quality iced tea.  Did a short tour of Coronado Island and the Hotel Del before it was time to meet Nick downtown for frozen yogurt.  Dropped off baggage at the apartment before heading back downtown for dinner with the whole gang at Hash House A Go Go.

Day 2: Rise and Shine...still on Illinois time we headed out early to Escondido to visit the Wild Animal Park.  Were there 2 hours before we couldn't take the heat (100 degrees out there!) and headed back to La Jolla.  Quick pit stop at Rubio's for a lunch (amazing burritos for fast food!) before heading home to the pool for a few hours.  After a good swim and a little sun, we headed downtown for the Padres game where we even met a retired Padre!  Lots of good food at the ballpark (beef brisket, pulled pork, peanuts, ice cream, etc).

Day 3:  Breakfast at Hash House A Go Go (that is what they are known for) before hitting the quilt shops (the one day Nick had to work) and a scenic drive.  We drove up Mt. Soledad for the highest viewpoint in San Diego.  You can see all the way to Mexico from there (which is about 25 miles)!  Drove to the cove in La Jolla to see the sea lions and for a bit of ice cream.  Dinner at home that night and early to bed because I had to work the next morning.

Day 4:  Nick showed mom and dad around Sunset Cliffs and the Embarcadero while I was at work and then we met downtown in Little Italy for a late lunch at local favorite Fillipi's.  Another quick stop at yogurtland and then back to the apartment for a change of clothes and a nap!  Dinner that night in Old Town where we spoiled yet another person's mexican tastebuds.  Late night of card playing.

Day 5:  Spent the day at the racetrack in Del Mar where we cheered for the horses we bet on and celebrated when our $2 bets returned us $.40!  Dad was the biggest winner of the day!  He won $18 on just one race!  Had dinner that night at Extraordinary Desserts.  Went back to Sunset Cliffs to actually see the sunset there and then home for hot dogs on the grill.

Day 6:  Lunch at Mama Testa's in Hillcrest before a harbor tour on the Adventure Hornblower ship.  Saw lots of big military ships and learned more about "America's Finest City".  Needed to get in one more taste of authentic mexican food that night for dinner before Mom and Dad had to leave the next morning.  Had dinner at El Indio and dessert at home.

To the right is a picture of a plane landing at the airport.  It's really amazing how steep that landing is because the airport is in downtown.

(Am I the only one who schedules their day/vacations around where to eat?)
