This past weekend Nick and I decided to explore a new direction, this time heading south down the coastline. Our drive took us first to Ocean Beach which is your very typical beach town with lots of roadside musicians, surfers, people practicing their various hobbies in the grass, frisbees on the beach, and restaurants that do not require shoes or shirts for service. We sat for a while and people watched. Next thing you knew there was a 3 man band sitting next to us playing some smooth classics. We walked down Newport Street and went in and out of a few of the antique stores there. We do plan to go back sometime to try Hodad's, a local restaurant that had a very long line out the door and claims of the best hamburgers in the windows.

We headed farther down Sunset Cliffs Road to where it runs into the coast. The cliff sides there offer a great view and a peaceful atmosphere. The cliffs are too unstable to climb down or even go to the edge but at one point there is a stairway down to the water where you can walk along the rocks and feel the spray of the water on your ankles.
You can head farther then down the coast into Point Loma where they say you can see Mexico. We stopped short of the end of Point Loma and walked through the Fort Rosecrans Cemetery. It was quite humbling to see the gravestones of so many who faught for our country. Each stone stated the name and dates of birth and death as any other headstone, but they also listed where they had faught. We saw some that were in WWI, WWII, and NAM. I just can't imagine my husband coming home from WWI and telling me later that he'll be going back to WWII and then again to Vietnam.

That night we headed to Old Town for some authentic Mexican food. Nick had been told Casa Guadalajara was a great place to eat. We watched them make their own tortillas while we waited for our table. We waited a bit longer to be able to sit outside on the patio and it was worth it. We both tried something a little out of the ordinary and it paid off. We ate way too many chips and then way too much of our main dishes. That was really the end of a great day out. We were exhausted from all the exploring and eating so we headed home.
Do you remember that I was watching some dogs last week? I mentioned that one of the dogs, Danke, enjoys having her back end scratched. All you have to do is put your hand on her back and she will do the shaking required to scratch her own itch. I wanted to show you what I meant so I tried to video it. Hilarious right? It certainly cracks us up. I really enjoyed having them to spend the week with while Nick was out of town.
the music in the second video really tops it all! it is probably just the tv but, i laughed out loud.
ReplyDeleteLove the music in the 2nd video . . . perfect! I really wanted to reach out and give him a scratch myself :o)
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the military cemetery is such a beautiful shot. The angle, . . . the tree, . . . the ocean in the background. Humbling doesn't even describe the feeling it gives me. Great job, sweetie.
Hugs!
