Happy Fourth of July!

To celebrate the Fourth of July, Nick and I decided to spend the afternoon watching the current number one in America's favorite pastime...BASEBALL!

We don't care to watch it on TV but we both agree that few things are better than the atmosphere of the ballpark.  The San Diego Padres play at the downtown Petco Park.  We walked up to the ticket counter and said "we'd like your cheapest seats please!".  They were great and we learned that you can even bring in your own food which will be nice for next time because all I wanted was a ballpark hot dog and all they had were weinershnitzel ones that were not good.  Regardless we had a great time cheering on the home team to another win over the Astros.

Later that night we headed downtown for the fireworks over the pacific.  We got more than we bargained for.  Nick's work is right downtown on the harbor and the parking lot is gated so we basically had a reserved front row seat for the show.  What we thought would be a great fireworks show turned out to be four great fireworks shows.  From where we sat, we could see the downtown show (which had two launch spots), the Coronado show, and what I think was the Point Loma show.  They were all synchronized together with patriotic music playing on the local oldies station.  It was beautiful and still takes me back to that first summer I knew Nick when we sat on a blanket with friends and the goose bumps came from him holding my hand rather than the fireworks over the Coles County Airport.
