Seeing as the first anniversary is the "paper" anniversary, Nick and I decided to buy each other paper plane tickets (printed from our computer) to see his family in Boston Massachusetts. We had a blast!
They took us to Salem Mass (the locals never say the entire state name but always include it with the town name) to see the House of Seven Gables and a real Witch House! Very cool but also overpriced to tour, so Dave started giving us what we called "the ten cent tour". We got a lot of Dave's ten cent tours along with some not so cheap tours from "professionals" and I have to say that Dave is a great tour guide in comparison.
He lead us through the Freedom Trail that goes all through downtown Boston as well as many car tours of the towns nearby (including the town of Peabody - pronounced by locals as (say it really fast) Peabiddy).
Miah also took on the role of tour guide when she lead us through the Harvard Campus on Tuesday. We felt much smarter just being on their campus! We did take a "professional"
tour of Boston with the local duck tours company. If you've never done this it is a vehicle that can go on land and in water. It was quite informative but to Dave's credit,
they did repeat much of what he had told us. Probably our favorite tour was the Fenway Park tour. It was something that the Boston Miller's had not done and quite informative and fun. Nick and
I agreed that if we weren't die-hard Cub fans, we would consider being Red Sox fans. On top of all the tours and sight seeing we ate some really wonderful meals. Miah is a great cook and fixed us "surf and turf" (steak and lobster) our first night there. Nick and I were both very brave and tried the lobster even though it was looking up at us from the plate. We liked it but agreed we like steak better and continued to wish that we liked more various foods. We also had some great italian and some AMAZING baked goods and ice cream. Mike's Pastry is a local and tourist favorite for all things sinful and we highly reccomend it. We had a great weekend and want to thank David, Miah, Lauren, Alex, and Milo for sharing their house and home with us for what was too short of a visit. We will see them again at Christmas in Indiana, but look forward to seeing them back in Boston again sometime!
